[ARCHIVED] How to omit a graded test from the final grade WITHOUT deleting the exam

I would like to omit a graded exam from the final grade total. I wished to change the point total for the original exam, but I used the classic quiz function. By using the classic quiz function, it's my understanding that I can't change the total points (I would have to adjust the total allowable points for all questions for each student). Thus, I have published a new exam and imputed the correct point total for each student. Now, can I exclude the original exam from the final grade WITHOUT deleting the exam (so I can keep the metrics and individual student performances)?

You can simply remove the quiz from "Modules" page (not "Assignments" page) or unpublish it, all student submissions will remain

If you are using a weighted grade book, create a new assignment group with weight of 0% and move the test into that group.  It is no longer counting toward the student grades and you can leave it published so that students can view it.

For points based gradebook, then you probably have to do what @jerry_nguyen suggested.  I do not know because I do not use points based gradebooks.

Removing a graded item from a Module will not affect the Gradebook. A Module is just a container. You can put items in it. You can remove items from it. It has no bearing on your Gradebook.

Bowmanr's suggestion of using Assignment Group Weights is a better solution. Create a group and label it something like "Extra." Then make that Assignment Group worth 0%.

You can do the same even if you are just calculating a total number of points. Create an Assignment Group called something like "All Assignments." Give it 100%. Then put the extra item in your "Extra" group worth 0%.

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice. I ended up simply editing the exam to "practice quiz", similar to the advice given above. It's now listed in a separate "practice quiz" folder that does not count towards the final grade. Quick and easy fix! thanks!!
