If you are completing a Canvas Training course, then a page shell refers to creating an empty page in a module in order to demonstrate your ability to add items to a module. In Canvas there are generally two ways to construct modules:

1. Adding existing pages, assignments, quizzes, etc... to the module
2. Using the "New Assignment", "New Page", or "New Quiz" buttons when adding content to a module. This creates a "shell" or empty item that can be filled in at a later date.

A shell is normally a holder for content. Think of mollusks or crustaceans. It's a place for the animal to live. It's not the animal itself, just the place it lives.

A page shell should be a page for content to live, without actually having content on it. I say should because I'm not the person assigning this, but that's what I would take it to be. They may want more, so I would check with them for clarification.

This sounds like a project I had my students work on a couple of years ago. They were supposed to redesign our statistics course within Canvas. For some, that included modules, but they were free to use a content page as a home page if they liked.

I told them that in the modules, they needed to create links to the pages that they were going to have and that they had to fill out a couple of pages, but the rest of the pages could be empty -- they just had to exist.

I think that's empty content page is a page shell. But you should really check with the person who assigned you to do this. Some may want you to put a blank page, others may want you to put in the headings without the text, and others may want you to use lorem-ipsum or some other content generator so there are meaningless words on the page.
