Forgive me! I am a science teacher and do not have essays, but I do have labs. You should see a "to do" list from your homepage when assignments are submitted. If you select that, it will take you directly to speed grader. You can also click on the assignment you are looking to grade and select speed grader.
You will then get this screen where you can write all over it and on the right-hand side you can enter the grade and comments. You can also include video comments, which are pretty cool!
