Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I attempted to use the Google Assignments integration this week with my classes. It seemed everything was working right on my end (I was able to attach the document using external tool and was able to preview the assignment). I had multiple students e-mail me today that they are having trouble getting the assignment to submit. When I open up the assignment to view the submissions, there are none. I added a fellow teacher to my class and had them submit the assignment. Their submission did not show up (I literally watched them hit the submit button and saw that it said submitted).
I can login to my Google Drive and see the student work in the folder that was created for the assignment but cannot see it in Canvas.
Is there a glitch in the integration that is causing it not to show student submissions? Is there something additional I need to do to see their submissions?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Next summer I have been told the old Google cloud assignment will go away. Make sure your students exit their doc before submission. The speedgrader is supposed to be blank until you grade it in the Google assignment submission section. THEN your speedgrader will show the score. Rumor has it eventually you'll be able to grade in either place, but not yet.
Following! I am having the same issue.
I had a Google Cloud assignment on Canvas today. The only thing I did different was making it launch in a new tab. Students were able to access it fine and work on it no problem. I allowed two students to share their screen and watched them submit the assignment. I had several other students say they submitted it as well. However, when I go to SpeedGrader, it shows that none of my students have turned it in and says "This student does not have a submission for this assignment." I know for a fact these students submitted the assignment. I really need to start grading assignments. My district doesn't have it set up to create a Google Folder for me to find their work in either, so I am completely at a loss.
@jlondon90 You have to grade the submissions in Google. When teachers click on the assignment, they will see see submissions. They grade in Google and the score updates in Speedgrader.
Good luck!
The problem is that the Submissions are not showing up in the Canvas assignment. It still says "no submissions yet" even when all my students submitted and I can see their assignments in my Google Drive.
Ah! That is a very different issue. We have not encountered that one yet. Thank you for clarifying! I'd put in a ticket for sure.
I am having a different problem. I am uploading .doc and in the past I can open a submitted assignment using Google Docs. But now that option is gone. I was told to upload my document in .docx form, so I changed it to .docx form. No change. I cannot open it as there is nothing to pen it with .
All was fine until about a week ago, and then this past week it crapped out.
Does it say no submissions in the Speed Grader or in the Google Assignments part of the assignment. If it is the former then it is acting as it should, now, but if it is not showing up inside the Google Assignment then you need to confirm that students exist their doc, sheet, or slide and submit inside the Google Assignment part of the assignment.
I am having the same problem
One of the teachers at my school figured out the following:
SO the short of it is,
At least, this is what we were able to figure out.
Multiple teachers here are having the same problem. In SpeedGrader, the submission is a blank page even though the assignment was a Google Doc loaded through the Google Docs Cloud Assignment LTI. This error just started this morning. Before then, everything loaded through Google Docs Cloud Assignments was working.
See my post. You grade in the Google assignment section, not speedgrader.
I'm having the same problem....
Same Problem. Speedgrader shows a checkmark by the students' names who have submitted, but also shows message "There is no submission for this student." Will this weeks Assignments LTI update repair this?
We are having the same problem as well. When using Google Assignments LTI 1.3, submissions go to the assignments folder Google Drive, but nothing shows up in the Speedgrader.
same problem
Same at my site. We are new to Canvas, so I thought maybe it was user error. Apparently not.
We also have a teacher who use Google Assignments LTI to make a copy for each student. The teacher returned the assignment to have students make corrections, but some of the students can't access the documents. The student cannot unsubmit and can request access to the doc, but the teacher already returned it to the student.
Same problem. I want the old system. Also trying to work on the iPad, big fail there.
I am having the same problem. Has anyone found a solution yet?
I am having the same problem, except the button for submission is not generated and available to the students to submit anything for assignments. It used to work. We are not doing anything differently
Same problem here! Anyone find the issue?
I am having the same error. I'm hoping someone has a solution soon!
Similar problem, though interestingly, for some classes I DO see student work submitted.
For the classes with "no work submitted" I found a very inelegant work-around. If I EDIT the assignment and rechoose Google LTI 1.3, I can see that there are student files attached to my assignment. Clicking on a file with bring up the Google grading platform and I can go about reading student work. I then have to cancel out of editing the assignment and save it once more. Best I've found so far.
We are having the same problem. It's very frustrating!
I just ended a conversation with Canvas support, and they said it's a Google issue--that Canvas has no errors on their end or any powers to correct this issue. When I go to Google Support, though, there's nowhere to GET support... any thoughts on that?
We are experiencing the same issue. Where can we find Google help?
Our district is new to Canvas this year and lots are still learning how to do most basic things. This is really frustrating, and I really thought I was doing something wrong since it doesn't happen with one of my classes, but many of us are having this issue. We have found that if you enter the assignment through student view, Google recognizes you as the teacher and you can access the submitted work and scroll through to grade. It's a pain to go through all of the steps to get into student view from wherever the assignment is, but it's better than going through the Drive folder and scoring that way. And the grades do show up in the Grades page. Hope this helps some of you. Fingers crossed Google figures this out soon.
We have had the same issue at my site. Canvas support also told me it was a Google problem. I found this from Google:

They have posted this form to report the problem to them:
