There's not a way to do this that is "built in" to Canvas. Our school has installed some custom scripts to allow us to do this easily, and we also use DropoutDetective. However, we don't have 100% adoption with our Observer accounts, so we still often head back to our SIS to find family contact information.
It's a great idea and a feature that I'm sure many K12 teachers would appreciate.
I think that you can sort your gradebook (Total lowest to highest), and filter the students you need to contact to the top of the list. That way, at least the initial part of your process is shortened.
