Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I added a Unicode character (🎬) to a module item name that is a link to a Panopto Video (external tool). However, when I click on the link, the Panopto video does not load with the Unicode character in the name. It loads okay when the Unicode character is omitted. I tried in both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

That is strange. I would think that the link to the video would be the only thing that mattered and that the text associated with the link would not.
I just tried it with the following steps and it worked for me.
1) for a module I added an external url link.
2) I gave the url address of my panopto video for the url field.
3)in the name field, I typed in the word icon and then added on an icon at the end
clicking on the link pulled up the video
I then tried putting the icon first in the name field and I did not have any issues.
There must be something in the way you are creating the link that Canvas does not like
Ah, I see why it worked for you now. I did exactly as you laid out and it worked. When I added the video originally, I selected "External Tool" instead of "External URL". When I add a Panopto video using "External Tool", it doesn't work. Your solution is a good workaround. Thanks!
I like the unicode idea for the video. l I have just been using video: name of video for my entries.
My thought on a solution to this is that the unicode character only needs to be on the link description. When you add the module entry as an external url you get to put the item name in one area and the url(the video) link in another. Just create your panopto video without the icon and use that name for the link.
I may have misunderstood what you were asking (or what you want the students to be able to see), but I think the above would solve the issue.
Thanks for the idea. I tried putting the Unicode character in the Title field of the module item and omitted it from the Panopto video name. However, the video did not load when I clicked on the module item. Something about the Unicode character in the module item title keeps the video from loading correctly.
