@josephl While I don't think there are that many steps to emailing How do I send a message to all course users in the... - Instructure Community I prefer to use the Announcement tool as it notifies students in more ways. By default, students get the announcement as an email. Then we have all our courses set to show the most recent announcement when you access the course and on the course card it shows them that they have an announcement. We have about 75% of our students actively using the app too so students would see the notification there too. Plus you get the full Rich Content Editor for announcements which is an added plus.

Hi @josephl
I would like to add to what my most-esteemed colleague @nwilson7 said.
You can also send an inbox message directly to individual students from within your Canvas course.
- Click on People,
- Click on a student's name,
- In the dialog box that opens, choose the small envelope icon in the upper right.
For all-student communications I use announcements and/or the Inbox. For individual communications I use the method described or the Gradebook.
Best wishes,
Kelley
