Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
I've got an outcome in my course that I used with the student view (as accessed from the course settings) to experiment with how outcomes and rubrics work. Unfortunately, this was not done in a sandbox, but with a real outcome in a real course that was being developed.
Now, I have a need to edit that outcome or, failing that, delete it and recreate it, but it says I can't because the outcome has been used to assess a student. Never mind that this wasn't a real student, or even really another "test student" account -- just the student view mode in my own account. You'd think Canvas would be smart enough to recognize this as not an actual student. But its not, so I'm stuck unable to get my outcome how I want it.
Does anyone know of a solution?

There is the option to be able to edit this through the Outcome API, if you are able to access them. https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-11628-canvas-production-release-notes-2017-06-24#jive_conte...
@eric_orton , I'll start with the obvious, did you reset the test student? Normally this works to clear things out. Yet, I know in the past it didn't always work for quizzes so maybe it's having the same problem with outcomes. 😞
Yes, I tried that, but to no avail.
My recommendation at this point is to contact Canvas Support and see if they can recommend anything. I'd hate for you to have to delete and recreate if you don't have to. 😞

Give this a try. In your course, go to "Settings" >> "Sections" tab, and click on the section listed under "Course Sections". You should see a "Student, Test" user listed there with a long string of characters (letters and numbers). This is your "Test Student" role. Hover over that "user", and it should highlight in gray. You should also see a red "x" icon near it. Click that icon to remove "Student, Test" from your course section. Now, go back to your Outcomes area to see if you can do what you were trying to do earlier.
Hope this helps, Eric!
I tried this, but unfortunately I still can't edit the outcome. Thanks for the suggestion, though. Seems reasonable that this should have worked. I guess it's time for a support ticket.

Yes, but only the text fields in the outcome. What I want to edit is a numeric field, specifically, the mastery threshold. Since none of the supposed students who have been graded are real (just test students used in QC of the course) and this is a master course, I'm thinking maybe I should just copy the course, edit the copy (which should have no student data in it to prevent this), and then delete the original course. Then, I'd use the new copy as the master.
