I need to change the role of two of my users in Canvas.  Mayra Rodriguez should be a teacher.  I changed Alma Morfin-Olivera to an admin because I am not able to make her a teacher either.  There should be some simple answer for this.

In Canvas, with the exception of account-level roles, roles do not attach to users: roles are a function of that user's enrollment in a course. So the same user can be enrolled in one course as a teacher (and will have teacher permissions in that course), and another course as a student (and will only have student permissions in that course).

So with regard to this specific user, I'd recommend taking away the admin privileges, unless you think she needs it for different responsibilities. When she's enrolled in a course as a teacher, she will be in that role in that course.

What if we added the person as a teacher, but need to change them to a student (or vice versa)? Is there a way to modify role after creation? Thank you.

This is precisely my question. I need a user currently enrolled as a student to be switched over to a teacher at the domain level so that they can create courses. However, I don't want to delete their account because I'm afraid of them losing access to the courses they're currently enrolled in. I tried to invite them under the new role, but got an error because their email was already in use. Very frustrating.
