Celebrate Excellence in Education: Nominate Outstanding Educators by April 15!
Has anyone got a problem with uploading files?
This has only happened today and when I select a new assignment there are normally tabs and boxes down the right side of the screen. Today there is nothing and the main dialogue box where things are added just goes right across the screen.
Any ideas anyone, as I am desperately trying to send my students some work?

I think this is from the new update which is really a pain in the you-know-what. I love to link to all of my assignments, video pages, and individual items in my modules and the old way was great. This new way of clicking on the link icon in the tool bar, then selecting from course, then selecting what section I want to find it in, then selecting the actual link is crazy! I think this has added a few steps and is not user friendly at all. The drop down menu for the links takes up half of my screen so I can't actually see if I have the right spot selected for the link to be put in. I just think it was way better the old way than the way that Canvas thinks is better. My humble opinion and I hope others speak out about it. It was definitely the topic of conversation in the teacher's lounge and not one teacher was happy with this change.
It sounds like you might be missing the old Rich Content Editor interface:Old RCE
And now what you are seeing is:New RCE
The Old RCE was discontinued on 1/16/21.
If you want to upload files, go to the "files" tab on the menu. Click upload, your desktop will appear, select your file and it will upload it. You said you wanted to send your students some work. If it is a file, use Announcements instead, you can attach files to the announcement and it is sent to their emails. This way you don't need to upload the files first.
Hi
Thank for the response.
I can access files as you say from the files tab on the left but cannot load them to announcements or assignments and as mentioned as this has only started occurring today, I wondered if there was a glitch in the system that anyone else has mentioned?
Regards

I do understand it was changed but my question is why? This is so much more tedious to do as an instructor. If this was just for looks then Canvas missed the ball on this. I would rather make my job easier than have my screen look nice. Definitely not a smart move.
Hi,
I have now got used to the new format and to be quite honest the part that I was originally struggling with appears to be easier than previously.
Hope this helps?
Wait until you have to link to a file that is in a folder in the course files. I've gotten used to linking other things, but finding files to link to them is a real chore.
While this has already been helpfully solved, I would like to respectfully agree with comments regarding the drawbacks of this update. It seems that this was done for aesthetics and not to enhance the user experience. Changing and adding links is significantly more difficult than before. I'm perplexed by the choice to put the file linking tools under a completely separate menu category than the other linking tools.
This goes beyond resistance to change. The update makes the process of linking content more lengthy and complicated. I'm not trying to be overly negative, but I do want the Canvas creators to see our dissatisfaction with this update.
