Are you asking as a teacher, or as a student? This will help. I am going to assume you are asking as a teacher for a course someone built for you.
There are two ways that you can do this...........
- Actually create your sub-assignments as new assignments and delete your old one. How do I create an assignment? I would find this tedious, and it could be confusing for students unless you organize them very well. From your end, it is also hard to achieve any kind of grading continuity.
- Take advantage of the fact that your students can submit multiple times to any assignment. Create a Canvas grading Rubric that includes criteria for each component of the assignment. When students submit first component, use the appropriate criteria in the rubric to grade that component, rinse&repeat until asll components are submitted, then close the assignment. This way, each component has an individual grade recorded in the Rubric, but the overall assignment has a final single grade in the Gradebook. The second option is one I use for multi-part assignments all the time.
