I love this feature too! It seems to me that the only way a student can see that the assignment has been reassigned to him/her, is on his/her dashboard? In the calendar, the assignment remains striked...

You may want to upvote this more recent feature idea: Allow New Quizzes fill in the blanks to have multiple blanks on different lines 

We would definitely use the normal average if it were available!

This would be a great feature to do two-stage assessments!
