Canvas Parent App
In this video you will learn how to use the Canvas Parent app. The steps in this video are shown for a phone display, but unless otherwise noted, tablet displays mirror the same steps. Most of this video was created using an iOS device. Any differences for Android users are noted.

Depending on your institution's Canvas theme, the Canvas interface may display differently than shown in this video, but the functionality is the same.
Canvas Parent App Video Script
In this video, you will learn how to use the Canvas Parent app.
After opening the app, you may see previously used login credentials that you can use to log in. If this is your first time logging in, locate your institution by tapping the Find School button. Enter the name of your institution or school district in the field. When the full name displays in the search list, tap the name. You can also enter a Canvas URL in the search field. On the login page, enter your email and password. Then tap the Log In button. You can also log into Canvas by scanning a QR code in the web version of Canvas. Tap the QR Login link. Then tap the I have a Canvas account link and tap the Next link. If you don’t have a Canvas account, you will need to pair your account with your student or contact your student’s school. In your User Navigation Menu of the web version of Canvas, click the QR for Mobile Login link. Hold your phone up to your computer screen to scan the QR code. Once the code is located, the app will update automatically.
After logging in to the Parent app, you will see the Courses page, which displays your student’s courses and grades. If you have more than one student linked to your account, you can switch students by tapping the Student drop-down menu then tapping the name of the student you would like to view. To view more information about a course, tap the course name. Within each course, you will see the course page displaying the student's total grade as well as a list of all assignments. To view details for an assignment, tap the name of the assignment.
To view the course syllabus, tap the Syllabus link. The Syllabus link only displays if the instructor is using the syllabus as the course home page. You may also see the Course Summary, if the instructor enables it. The Course Summary is automatically generated for the course and contains a list of assignments and events. To return to your student’s courses, tap the Back icon.
To view upcoming events and assignments for all courses, tap the Calendar icon. Tap any assignment or event to view details. To receive a push notification reminder about the assignment or event, tap the Set Reminder button. To view alerts for your students, tap the Alerts icon. Alerts include notifications on high or low grades, missing assignments, and announcements. Alerts can be managed from the User Menu. To open your User Menu, tap the Menu icon. To view your inbox, tap the Inbox link. To manage observed students, tap the Manage Students link. To add a new student, tap the Add icon. Then you can scan a QR code or enter the student pairing code and tap the Add button on iOS or OK button on Android. To manage alerts, tap the name of the student.
To enable an alert for missing assignments, course announcements, or institution announcements, tap the toggle button. You can also receive alerts when an assignment or grade is below or above a certain percentage. To enter the percentage, tap the number next to the criteria and enter a percentage. To save the alert, refresh the screen by pulling down and releasing on iOS or tap the Save link on Android.
The Canvas Parent App on Android allows you to manage settings and select a display theme. By default, the Light Mode theme is enabled. To enable a dark theme, tap the Dark Mode icon. To enable a high contrast display in the app, tap the High Contrast Mode toggle button. From the User Menu, you can also get help with the app, switch users, and log out of the app.
