After careful consideration, we have decided to sunset the Google Drive upload functionality in Canvas Student ePortfolios (Portfolium product) projects and assignments. The functionality will be discontinued on June 10th. This decision is driven by several factors, primarily the feature's low utilization and the existence of an easy workaround that allows users to continue to use their projects and assignments seamlessly.
What this means for You
We understand that change can sometimes be inconvenient, but we want to assure you that there will be no loss of functionality. Users will be able to:
- Simply download the required files from your Google Drive to your computer.
- Once downloaded, you can easily upload these files directly to your projects and assignments from your computer.
Why we're making this change
After analyzing the usage data, we found that the Google Drive upload feature was underutilized by our community. Maintaining this feature requires ongoing engineering efforts and incurs costs that are disproportionate to its usage.
Impact on current users and previously uploaded files
For users who have previously used the Google Drive upload functionality, rest assured that there will be no disruption:
- Any files you have already uploaded from Google Drive will remain accessible and functional, just like any other files uploaded directly from your computer.
We are committed to supporting you through this transition and are here to assist with any questions or concerns you might have.
