At InstructureCon this past July when the new LTI Usage Data feature set was launched and in the subsequent It’s an LTI (R)Evolution product blog post, I discussed how we had additional phases planned to continue innovating and providing you with much-needed functionality to better view, analyze, understand, and take action on your LTI Usage Data. This week, we are thrilled to release the export functionality throughout the feature set and the ability to drill down into an individual tool’s usage. Below we’ll take an in-depth look at each of these and what you can expect, then wrap up with what’s next.
Empowering Export Functionality
Up until this point, you have been able to view data and filter the data, but it had to stay in the existing user interface. Now, with the newly added export functionality throughout the product, you can export data from any table across LTI Usage to further manipulate and/or take action on as needed outside of the application. This empowers you to manipulate as you see fit, potentially combining this data with other data for more institution-specific, complex, and/or comprehensive insights. Specifically in the application, you can expect to see this functionality in:
The Installed Tools table on the Overview page
This gives you a birds-eye view of high-level usage of all of your installed tools to visualize, compare, and/or report out on as needed.
The Unique Users table in the drill-down modal window from the Installed Tools table
This allows you to leverage the user data for targeted communication and support, visualize, compare, and/or report out on as needed.
The Sub-Account Usage table in the drill-down modal window from the Installed Tools table
This allows you to leverage the sub-account data for targeted communication and support, visualize, compare, and/or report out on as needed.
The Course Usage table in the drill-down modal window from the Installed Tools table
This allows you to leverage the course data for targeted communication and support, visualize, compare, and/or report out on as needed.
Dynamic Drill-down Functionality
Additionally, we’ve added the ability for you to now drill down into a single LTI tool by clicking on any tool’s name from the Installed Tools table to get tool-specific data.
That will open up that specific tool’s page where you will have a similar high-level view of the tool as you may have seen in the new Canvas Apps area, in addition to the usage for that specific tool. In regard to data, for now, you’ll see the Total Launches, Unique Users, Sub-Account Usage, Course Usage, and Top 5 Champions (for Sub-Accounts, Courses, and Instructors) quick facts as shown below. Identifying and leaning into those Champions, especially when using Impact's targeted campaigns can help deepen adoption, promote better practices, and ensure return on your investment. Note that filter selections will persist across screens.
We still aren’t stopping though! We are also wrapping up the addition of the version table, which will be released in the next few weeks below the quick facts and will look similar to the image below. The version table will help clearly identify if you have multiple versions installed of the same LTI tool, where, to what extent they are placed, and how much they are being used, where, and by whom. This will be a game-changer for helping to support the migration from 1.1 to 1.3 LTI tools. Huzzah!
All of this most recent and prior work has gone through extensive accessibility auditing, testing, and adjustments to ensure that users of all abilities can access the data that they need. Outside of the version table above, we are actively working on the Compare Tools functionality and enriching the LTI tool data. Here’s a look ahead at what’s already planned (and/or in motion):
- More LTI tool data (ongoing)
- Accessibility (ongoing)
- Addition of version table to individual tool usage page (will be released in next few weeks)
- Tiered sub-account access (targeting Q4)
- Compare tools (targeting Q4)
- Improved options for filtering by time (addition of term and date picker) (targeting Q4 or Q1)
- OOTB charts (likely Q1)
- Custom chart creator with chart library and ability to pin charts (targeting Q1)

If you have LTI tools that you use (not homegrown), you can also request that those tools be added via a separate form on the LTI Usage Overview page.
