Pinboard Sharing is Here! Share Insights with Ask Your Data

We’re excited to introduce a highly requested feature in Ask Your Data of Intelligent Insights: the ability to share pinboards! As part of our continuous efforts to extend the value of Intelligent Insights, we’re delivering impactful features that will enhance collaboration and productivity. With the March release, Ask Your Data users can share their pinboards with other users of the tool, enhancing collaboration within Canvas admin teams and making data-driven decision-making even more seamless.

What’s New?

Pinboards in Ask Your Data provide an interface for users to create their dashboards in a highly customizable, self-service way to surface insights and tell compelling data stories.

Until now, pinboards in the tool were private, accessible only to their creators. While this ensured a personalized experience, many users told us they’d get even more value if they could collaborate by sharing insights across their teams. With this latest update, pinboard owners can share their curated insights with other Ask Your Data users within their Canvas instance, fostering transparency, alignment, and shared understanding.

Sharing Options

Pinboards can be shared in two ways, providing flexibility based on the level of collaboration needed:

1. View-only access: This option allows users to share a pinboard as a read-only resource. Team members can explore insights without modifying the original content, ensuring data integrity while promoting visibility.
2. Collaborator access: This mode allows multiple users to contribute by adding new pins to a shared pinboard. However, users cannot remove pins added by others or access their chat history. This ensures a collaborative yet controlled environment, making it ideal for teams working together on data analysis and reporting.

Note – pinboards in Ask Your Data are shared at the account level, making them accessible to all other Ask Your Data users within the Canvas instance, rather than being individually assigned.

Both options require recipients to have permission to use Ask Your Data. Pinboards cannot be shared directly with individual users or with those who do not have access to the tool.

New Pinboard Library

To make managing pinboards more intuitive, we also introduced a revised Pinboard Library that structures pinboards into two distinct sections:

1. Your Pinboards – A dedicated space for all the pinboards you’ve created.
2. Shared with You – A separate section for pinboards that others have shared with you, making it easy to access team insights without cluttering your personal workspace.

This updated structure enhances organization and ensures that users can quickly find the pinboards most relevant to them.

Why This Matters

The ability to share pinboards transforms the way teams interact with learning data in Ask Your Data. Whether you’re a Canvas administrator, an institutional researcher, or part of a business intelligence (BI) team, this feature enhances:

• Collaboration: Teams can now work together more effectively within the product, reducing silos and ensuring key stakeholders have access to critical insights, without having to download and sending around manual files and exports.
• Shared Understanding: By providing a single source of truth, shared pinboards ensure everyone is working with the same data, leading to faster, more informed decision-making.
• Efficiency: By eliminating the need to recreate the same pinboards across multiple workspaces, users can build on existing insights, saving time, reducing redundancy, and ensuring consistency.
• Scalability: Power users can create pinboards for colleagues who may have less experience with Canvas Data, LLMs or feel less confident in prompt engineering, making data exploration more inclusive and approachable.
