I'm thrilled to announce the Recommendations Feature is now available in Beta! Shaped by insights from several user interviews, this first version introduces course recommendations exclusively on the Homepage (storefront), helping learners explore relevant courses while giving admins powerful tools to guide their discovery.
Your feedback is invaluable as we refine this feature! Submit your thoughts via Google Form by February 2nd, and be part of shaping its future.
Why Did We Build This?
Our research revealed a challenge: users browsing Canvas Catalog often lack guidance to explore additional courses, while admins need better tools to promote courses strategically. Version 1 of the Recommendations Feature bridges this gap, offering curated suggestions directly on the Homepage.
What’s New in Version 1?
For Learners
When you visit your institution’s Catalog Homepage, you’ll see recommendations like "Most Popular" or "Trending Now," helping you discover courses quickly and easily.
For Admins
You have complete control over:
- Recommendation type: Choose between “most popular” or “trending.”
- Number of recommendations: Display 1 to 25 courses (default: 4).
- Visibility: Enable or disable recommendations for each Subcatalog.
Looking Ahead: A Sneak Peek at Version 2
We’re already planning the next iteration of the Recommendations Feature, scheduled for release in Q1! Here’s what you can look forward to:
What’s Coming in Version 2?
Recommendations on Detailed Course Listing Pages
We’re introducing a "Recommendations" tab on individual course pages, showcasing courses frequently bought together with the one being viewed.
How Does Version 2 Build on Version 1?
While Version 1 focuses on the Homepage experience, Version 2 will enhance course discovery within individual course pages, helping learners find complementary courses directly where they’re browsing.
Your Role in Shaping the Future
The feedback you provide on Version 1 will directly influence Version 2. Whether you’re an admin or a learner, we want to hear from you! Submit your input via Google Form by February 2nd.
