In collaboration with the Canvas Credentials Team, we are thrilled to announce our latest integration with the Credentials LTI in Canvas (formerly known as Badgr). As a result, Impact Admin can now view and understand the usage and adoption of Credentials (formerly known as Badgr) in Canvas to make better data-informed decisions, as well as deepen overall adoption of Credentials through in-app messaging and support with Impact. Badging and credentialing just got a whole lot better!

Background on Impact LTI Integrations

Due to the nature of how LTI tools are implemented inside of Canvas, the ability to monitor and measure usage, as well as strategically place meaningful Impact messaging has historically been limited. However, we know and understand that LTIs are an integral component of your edtech ecosystem and are committed to providing deeper integrations with them as a result. We are so happy to add the Credentials LTI integration to those that we already have (Studio, Mastery Connect, and Ally) and look forward to adding more in Q4! (Stay tuned to the Product Blog for exciting updates on this front soon!)

This Canvas Credentials integration includes two main areas of focus: the availability of the third-party tool frame for Credentials LTI inside of Canvas for you, as Impact Admin, to leverage on your own and a plethora of Out-of-the-Box (OOTB) content to save you time and energy! Below, we’ll dig into both of these areas in greater detail.

Third party tool frame

As an Impact Admin, you should be very familiar with leveraging the Inline Editor inside of Canvas to take action. Now, when engaging the Inline Editor while the Credentials LTI is launched, you’ll see a dropdown menu to select the third party tool frame as shown in the image below. When selecting this option, you’ll be able to create any additional monitors and place messaging inside of the Credentials LTI as needed to better support your students and faculty!

Out of the Box Content

Of course, we know that your time is precious, so the Impact Content Team is always hard at work to provide you instant value with OOTB content, including Inline Templates, Monitors, Support Articles, Campaigns and Walkthroughs. While the technical component is cool, we are even more excited to provide:

  1. 117 OOTB predefined page and element-level Templates/Contexts for quick and easy access to place messaging
  2. 81 OOTB categorized Monitors for deep and meaningful adoption insights upon which you can take direct action
  3. 32 OOTB role-based Support Articles for students and instructors to provide contextualized in-app support
  4. 3 OOTB Walkthrough Templates to provide seamless guidance for users on key functionality inside of the Credentials LTI. These Walkthrough Templates include:

      Instructor

      Student

To access all of this OOTB Credentials content, make sure to enable the LTI Credentials Tool Category.

As alluded to above, this is just the start of many more LTI integrations to come! Next up will be the New Quizzes LTI integration this quarter and we’ll be announcing some other exciting ones very soon.Stay tuned to the Impact Product Blog for major product updates and enhancements and the Impact Release Notes for when the features and content are live in your production instance! For now, we’d love for you to leave a comment below to let us know your feedback and how you plan to leverage this new Credentials LTI integration with OOTB content.

Maybe this is not planned or considered yet, but would the third-party tool frame would be used as a basis for making monitors and contexts for elements within external tools installed on Canvas?

@rpsloan - you're exactly right! The third-party tool frame is what is used to create all contexts, monitors, and templates, as well as to place element-level messaging and contextualize support articles. Ideally, we provide the large bulk of what you need OOTB, so that you don't have to create things from scratch. Of course you are also free to add/create content yourself as desired. Our ultimate goal is to continue to rapidly expand integrations with third-party LTI tools and provide OOTB content (contexts, monitors, support articles, campaign templates, and walkthrough templates) with all of them! We are doing a pilot of integrations with a subgroup of our Instructure Partners this quarter as shown on our Impact Roadmap! More on that very soon! 🙂
