TL;DR – In order to support caregiver involvement during student learning we enabled the Submission Feedback and Rubric for observer users in our Canvas Parent apps on mobile.
Our most recent Canvas Parent app feature update was implemented as a direct response to consistent Community feedback. In the idea View assignment comments and rubrics, educators and Canvas admin advocated for parents and guardians who needed more comprehensive visibility into assignment comments and rubrics. Based on the comments in the idea and in our Canvas Mobile Question Forum, we know it was a recurring request too. Implementing this feature reflects Instructure's commitment to actively listening and responding to its users' needs.
Why Parent Involvement Is Key
It is vital for guardians to stay connected to their child’s progress. When an observer understands the feedback the instructor provides, they can better support their child’s growth both academically and personally.
Building Strong Partnerships
By staying informed about what teachers share with the child, parents and guardians will be in sync with both the student and the school. This collaboration between caregivers, students, and teachers strengthens the learning experience and drives better outcomes.
Supporting Learning at Home
When observers are aware of the feedback the school and their child’s educator provides, they’re better equipped to reinforce important lessons at home. This helps build confidence in students and keeps them motivated as they continue to improve.
The new feature supports classic Assignments and Assignment Enhancements and already available in our latest apps both on Android and iOS.
