Accessibility

The MyEducator website and courses are "substantially compliant" with ADA, WCAG 2.0, and Section 508 guidelines for making electronic learning resources easily accessible for people with disabilities. Below is a statement of compliance that was written soon after an external review for accessibility was completed.

Compliance with WCAG 2.0 Guidelines

The MyEducator team has made a concerted effort to make our web content and world-class courseware more accessible to people with disabilities. MyEducator’s efforts in web accessibility include the following:

WebAIM Site Evaluation Report. WebAIM (Web Accessibility in Mind) was contracted in November 2014 to conduct an external evaluation of MyEducator websites to help ensure they meet accessibility laws and guidelines (ADA, Section 508, WCAG 2.0, etc.). The WebAIM report provided specific recommendations to fix accessibility issues that were identified. Severity ratings were given to help prioritize those issues. The MyEducator team has worked to address the compliance issues that were identified by WebAIM.

WebAIM Accessibility Training. The entire MyEducator team received on-site accessibility training from WebAIM (11-4-2014). The WebAIM training focused on accessibility principles and techniques and was customized to help the MyEducator team address specific compliance issues that were identified in the initial WebAIM Site Evaluation Report.

Follow-up Site Evaluation. MyEducator conducted a follow-up evaluation in March 2015 using the WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools (http://wave.webaim.org/), including the WAVE Firefox Toolbar to evaluate the public website and the WAVE Chrome Extension tool to evaluate internal course sites. These tools were used to identify any additional accessibility issues and to verify accessibility after the recommendations in the initial WebAIM report were implemented.

VPAT. MyEducator received a 3rd party evaluation in September 2017 to test compliance with WCAG 2.0 AA guidelines. This evaluation resulted in reaffirming MyEducator's substantially compliant status, and led to further enhancements in website accessibility.

The independent evaluation by WebAIM found MyEducator websites to be “substantially compliant” with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0).  Also, the MyEducator team has and will continue to work to make MyEducator online courses accessible to people with disabilities. MyEducator continues to work to identify and fix areas where there is not yet full conformance, including completing captioning for all instructional videos, adding meaningful alternative text for all images, and enhancing contrast on all pages to make it easier for users to see and hear content.

Data storage method	Data is stored in the cloud, MyEducator uses AWS as its exclusive cloud provider.
Data retention policy	Data gathered may be deleted after a period of three years.
Incident management program, policy, and testing	Staff is available 24/7 to handle incidents. On-call employees rotate weekly and are available within 10 minutes of any reported incident. Testing is regularly performed before each update to the application.
Disaster recovery and business continuity plan and testing	Recovery procedures are not tested annually,  however, we do have plans and procedures for moving to an alternate site in the case of any disaster, as needed.

Third party testing and security controls practices	MyEdcuator performs an annual security audit via a third party to ensure industry-standard security standards are met.
