Hi Canvas Community,
I’m currently using the new Canvas quiz format to create interactive labs, which has been a game changer for my teaching approach. I appreciate features like building on previous attempts, incorporating stimulus sections, asking questions, and allowing students to upload screenshots of their work.
However, I've encountered a significant issue: when a student reports a problem with the quiz, I’m unable to update the content for everyone due to Canvas’s restriction on changing quizzes once they’ve started. For example, a student recently pointed out that one of the questions was incorrectly labeled, but I couldn’t correct it for students who had already begun the quiz.
This limitation makes it difficult to address issues in real-time and support all students effectively. Is there a way to opt out of this restriction, or could we consider requesting this option? It would greatly enhance my ability to provide a seamless learning experience.
Thank you for your insights!
Hello @Rudy558
I totally understand your frustration with being able to edit and update small mistakes on quiz questions. This also was the case with the Classic Quiz engine.
To confirm, there is not a way to make small edits to quiz questions for In-Progress attempts for the New Quizzes engine.
Currently, your best options would be:
I do agree that It would be nice if the New Quizzes engine would allow you to make a small edit to the questions (Such as the text description in the RCE or even the answer choice) and apply/force that edit to the in-progress attempt. I suspect that the reason this is not possible is due to the way the In-Progress attempt respects/displays the version of the quiz that the student started. When a student starts a quiz, they see the latest version of the quiz that has been saved in Canvas.
This might make a great feature request for future Canvas releases. I don't know how hard it would be to develop a functionality to force small edits to an in-progress attempt on the new engine.
