Formula Questions Generate Numbers in Equation

I know that in the past for the new quizzes, we could use formula questions to generate numbers in an equation created by the equation editor. I remember seeing somewhere that it would not longer be an option for a time. It seems to still not work when creating new questions. Does anyone know of a workaround for this other than giving formula and saying something like: if a = ... and b = ... what is the value of c?

I don't remember this ever working using the equation editor (but I haven't done much with New Quizzes either). However, if you create the equation inline using LaTeX, then it works.

Use \ ( and \ ) to enclose the math content. There is no space between them, but I had to put a space or the Community software will actually make it math content.

Then, use put backticks around your variables names within the formula.

Here's an example (I added spaces for clarity, but they are not needed).

Evaluate: \( `a`^2 + 2(`b`) - `c` \)

Hello @mramir11 !  Are referring to creating questions where Canvas randomly inserts values into an equation for students to solve?  For example if the formula  a²+b²=c² was provided, then one student might have to solve 3²+4²=c² and another might have to solve 5²+12²=c².  If this is what you are looking for, then you would want to use the Formula question type in New Quizzes.  More on using Formula questions in New Quizzes can be found in How do I create a Formula question in New Quizzes?
