Abstract / Session Overview
Want to learn how to use the Canvas API in new and practical ways? Even if you aren’t a developer, this session is for you! Discover how one Canvas Admin used the Canvas Certified Technical Admin program to kickstart innovative ways to use the Canvas API to solve various needs.
Details
The Canvas Certified Technical Admin (CCTA) program consists of three courses; the first two courses focus on building a living Canvas Admin Plan, while the third is an elective, the choices of which are between Leading with Canvas for Technical Admins and Using the Canvas API. Given my interest in the Canvas API, I chose the latter elective.
My three main takeaways from the CCTA program were:
- Creating a documented, living Admin plan
- Learning/utilizing admin best practices from Instructure
- The power of API
Regarding APIs, I've been able to use what I learned in the CCTA program to create four distinct API applications to solve various needs across The University of Tampa:
- Prep Course Request Form
- Course Self-Enrollment Form
- Fillable Form as an Assignment Submission
- Custom API Application for Reporting
