Faculty are often inundated with obligations during the semester, so it’s difficult to complete significant professional development. To accommodate more instructors and meet the needs of online teacher certifications, the distance education team decided to offer summer certifications to meet the needs of faculty. We created an accelerated-hybrid format, which shortened the time to two-weeks and included a single day of face-to-face instruction. After participants submit their final artifacts for certification, the distance education coordinator and instructional designer implemented a two-step approval process. Over our first summer, we held three separate two-week sessions, resulting in over 25 newly certified faculty; including some scheduled to teach in the upcoming fall semester. This presentation will focus on how we created our accelerated training, the lessons we learned last summer, and what we plan on doing for this summer.
