I can't stay for the Unconference, but will there be any community gatherings on Tuesday morning like there was last year at the Adventure Center? That was an excellent idea sharing time!
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hey @straussi and everybody else,
I know have definitive information to share. The community lounge in the main pavilion won't be set up until, probably, Tuesday afternoon sometime. In light of that, community peeps will be hanging out in the Bridge lounges on Monday and Tuesday morning. That will be in the lodge and spa building, which is the building in between the lake and freeway. There is the little eatery at the west end of the lake and then the meeting rooms, etc are up one floor and farther into the building. Come find us there if you'd like to hang out!
@straussi , right now there’s nothing formal planned, but I’ve been contemplating some type of informal Community meet up. I take it you’d be interested if we did something like this?
@kona , definitely!
Awesome! I'll see what we can do and get back to you! 🙂
Kona
Me too! Me too! I'm interested
Awesome!
@BethCrook and @straussi , even if nothing is formally planned, come by the Community booth, and we will all have a nice friendly chat.
Of course, I have no idea when our Community booth will be set up.

LOL No doubt that I'll be hanging out at the Community booth, Canvassador booth, and any other booth I can find. Maybe we should have a StepsforBeth booth. KIDDING!! Seriously, I don't want that. Completely joking. But it could be a place where people sit, catch their breath, hydrate, and get oxygen if needed. Put it on the top of "cardiac hill" from the tunnel to the Conference Center. LOL
Hey @BethCrook and Everyone,
The 'community booth' will be in part of what was the keynote hall last year. The keynote and other large sessions are moving outside to a ginormous tent ala our last year in Park City to make way for more break out rooms and a bigger, more central space for what was in the little tent off to the side last year, namely a combined area for client success folks like Community and Engagement. In the Community area we'll have a high table with chairs and a seating area with a couch. We hope you-all will definitely come hang out. If I understand correctly that area won't be set up until Wednesday morning but we'll be there by Monday and we should all be able to find a place to hang out on Tuesday.
I would be interested as well.
Brian
Awesome! I've been in communication with @scottdennis and it sounds like we will definitely be doing something Tuesday morning. We are still working out the details, but will keep everyone posted! So mark your calendars and plan accordingly! 🙂
Key @kona , has there been any coordination for a preconference meetup? [I'll actually be around Monday too] I actually wanted to ask a question to the InstCon Canvas Community to see if there are people who are working with AR/VR and/or 360 video. We are researching that and I would love to get a VR group together, but I don't want to start anything if others are already organizing similar meet-ups.
snufer other than this general meet up for any/all Community folks, I'm putting together an Arc meetup on Tuesday. I haven't heard of a meet up for AR/VR/360 video so I'd say go for it in terms of trying to find like minded people and getting together to talk! 🙂
Kona
Me too! Though I am attending a pre-con workshop.

Nice location! That’s just a few steps from our condo!
If I remember correctly (doubtful), that is right at the bottom of the ramp from the main conference center?
If you and I are thinking of the same ramp, you walk under the highway, hang a right, walk along with the lake on your left until you come to the entrance that is right before you would go up the stairs and back out to the highway again.
Yes, right near where the vendor tent was last year?
Cripes. I forgot about climbing all those stairs outside at Keystone that first year. No better way to kick your rear end into thinking that you are completely out of shape, when you are usually a marathon runner. LOL
Hi @BethCrook
Even the ramps up are rather long, and steep!
I hang at the Conference Center most of the conference (Community and Canvassador booths). I will give you my cell number, and anytime you need some assistance getting up or down, just holler. If I can I will! In accessibility jargon, we call this "the blind leading the blind".
This is the true joy of community - folks helping folks succeed!

Several of us from faith-based institutions met up last year and formed what we now call Canvas Connections, meeting virtually each third Wednesday of the month to talk shop. Several have asked about a gathering at InstructureCon. So, if you're interested, please contact @jbuchholz of Northwest Nazarene University. He's thinking maybe a collection of tables during Wednesday lunch would allow for people to meet each other and network, network, network.
P.S. Jesse will be presenting our July 18 Canvas Connections session on Interactive Media Through Arc. Anyone is welcome to join us!
I saw @jbuchholz commenting at IHE in response to the Canvas surpasses Blackboard article! 🙂
Canvas catches, and maybe passes, Blackboard as top learning management system for U.S. colleges
