We asked what you'd like to see, and you said you want:
Your Community InstCon Mission, if you choose to accept, is to help us create a new design! We reviewed feedback and made some sketches, now we need your help.
Mockup #1 (click the image for larger view) | Mockup #2 (click the image for larger view) | Mockup #3 (click the image for larger view) |
#3 is my favorite for the following reasons
1. Less is more
2. Some pictures are good. Do we need video and polls and pictures and revolving banners? Probably not.
3. There are trees. I like trees.
4. The rectangles at the bottom remind me of the student dashboard tiles. We want an UX just as simple and easy as the dashboard.
For the same same reasons I like the bottom half of number one. Add trees and you'd be set.
Also, I love the "keep learning, build connections" themes woven throughout.
My suggestion is to allow target audiences to select a homepage that contains buttons/links to focused content for their specific audience: Admins, Faculty, Students, Instructional Designers, Developers. That might make it easier for the different audiences to locate content based on their goals/needs.
I prefer Mockups #1 and #3 because they have some focal points. I like how searching is central on #1. #2 is overwhelming without having some content emphasized.
Getting information and answers is why most of us login to the Community. So, another idea is to prioritize, centralize and emphasize anything that provides quick information/answers such as guides, searching, and discussions.
Thank you to all of you that shared your thoughts here, and are following this thread.
We're not going to tackle this project as quickly as we had hoped, but we will be retaining all of your excellent feedback for when we do pick it up again. Our community platform (Jive) recently shared some news that encourages us to re-evaluate our project priorities. You can find more information about at that announcement at JiveX (Community Platform) Acquisition
I was just thinking about two things...
1. Have you considered an app for the communities or a mobile friendly version? (Is this a feature request somewhere that I could vote up?)
2. Is there a communities slack channel? I'm thinking that it would be a lot easier for me to keep up with new threads if they were organized like slack.
