Global Announcements
A global announcement allows a principal or sub-account admin to create an announcement in Canvas to the entire school community. Announcements can be targeted to specific groups such as students, parents, teachers, or staff, or a combination of these, regarding important information or news that affects the school as a whole.
A few examples of global announcements that a principal could make might include school closures, important events, policy updates, safety and security alerts, and even for achievement and recognition.
Global Announcements in Canvas allow for three things:
- Efficiency: Because of its ability to have a wide reach, it eliminates the risk of information gaps or individuals being left uninformed.
- Communication: They provide a centralized source of information for everyone involved. Everyone received the needed information and the details are comprehensive
- Transparency: By sharing important updates in a Global Announcement, schools demonstrate a commitment to keeping everyone informed about decisions and developments that impact them.
So how are Global Announcements to be used differently from Course Announcements or Inbox messages? Take a look at the chart below to see the best use cases for each of the Canvas Communication Tools.
