Canvas Inbox Registers Read Messages When Read in Email

Currently, if I read/respond to a message in Canvas through my email, the message still shows as unread in Canvas. This partially defeats the purpose of being able to use Canvas inbox through email. Can this be changed so that Canvas inbox recognizes replies/reads that have happened through a connected email address?

The Product Team reviewed all feature proposals recently, and unfortunately, this thread was identified as one that they would not be able to include in their current or future plans.
