Quotes leave large spaces

Many problems with new discussion design. Here's one:

Quotes leave large spaces. When I reply to a student and I copy and paste words from that student in their previous discussion post into my reply, the reply leaves huge spaces between the quoted words and my new response when using any browser on the computer—and seems to double space it as well. The format makes reading very difficult. I see these huge spaces in students’ posts all the time.

This is not using the "quote" tool, it is simply using that very quick copy and paste method invented by the internet in 1993.

This does not happen in our instance of Canvas at Ventura College. Also you might have your facts wrong as January 1, 1983 is considered the official birthday of the Internet. Prior to this, the various computer networks did not have a standard way to communicate with each other. A new communications protocol was established called Transfer Control Protocol/Internetwork Protocol (TCP/IP).

I don't think I've encountered this issue here at El Camino, but I did want to note that the quote tool is basically useless in its current state. Much like the comments library in SpeedGrader, the tool doesn't work in the way a user would reasonably expect it to. There's basically no value in including an entire quoted reply. It would honestly be far more useful to have the <blockquote> element supported through the RCE which would also resolve this issue for @gcako.

Thanks for the responses. What I am experiencing is this: when I reply to another post and press the quote sign, as noted here,   "  , automatically a large space is created in the message area on my computer using Firefox (I am not talking about smart phone or tablet use). Then I cannot edit it. I click edit, remove the quote sign and save, and the huge space and quote sign returns. Then I am forced to delete my reply altogether and start over. Can anyone replicate this?

And yes, the quote function is useless -- why would I quote someone's entire post? I would want to quote only a selection and then respond to that.
