Updates and New Features: Tooltips, Blog Metadata, Top Nav Labels, Idea Filters, and Partner Space
Happy Holidays from the Instructure Community team! We’re bringing you some quality-of-life updates this month to make participating in the Instructure Community even easier.
For newer members (those who have logged in fewer than 6 times), we added tooltips to encourage you to Like blog posts or forum posts that you enjoyed and found helpful. We also added a tooltip to the “Was this helpful?” component on our guide articles. These tooltips help encourage Community members to engage with more content while helping us gather feedback about what’s popular and helpful throughout the Instructure Community.
We also enhanced the blog post metadata section. Instead of static icons, the Like and Comment buttons are now clickable. The Like button allows you to Like (or remove a Like) the post and the Comment button provides quick access to the comments section of the post.
Within the top navigation menu, you’ll notice a “New” label next to new items we add to the navigation menu to call attention to newly added or updated pages.
In Canvas Ideas, we added quick product filters. The filter list is long and can make it difficult to filter by a specific product. We feature the new product filters at the top of the page so you can easily filter the submitted ideas by Canvas product.
And last but not least, we’ve updated the Partners page to make it even easier to browse and find any of our Partners.
Tooltips
The tooltips display above the Like button in forum topics and blog posts and above the “Was this article helpful?” component in guide articles. They only display to users who have logged in fewer than 6 times. If you don’t want to see the tooltips, you can click the “X” icon to dismiss them for 2 weeks. If you are not logged in, the tooltip will always display and will prompt you to log in to leave a like or mark content as helpful.
Blog Post Metadata
Blog post metadata is now located underneath the username and Community rank of the blog author. You can now click the Like button to leave a like and click the Comment button to view the comments section. The functionality for the Views metadata icon is display-only.
“New” Label in Top Navigation
In the top navigation menu, we’re adding a “NEW!” label next to newly added or updated items in the navigation. We don’t often add or update navigation items, so we want to add an easy way to visually see when something new has been added. The “NEW!” label will remain in the menu for about a month for each item.
Canvas Ideas Quick Filters
We received feedback from several Community members that finding specific products in the Filter menus for Ideas is difficult. We added some quick filter buttons to make it easier to filter user-submitted ideas by Canvas product.
Partners Page
The Instructure Partners page contains hundreds of partner listings from companies that partner and integrate with Instructure and our family of products. We refreshed this page to make it easier to sort, filter, and find partners on this page. Featured partners are more prominent at the top of the page and a View All Partners button allows users to skip to the Partner Listings feed.
In the sidebar on the right, you can use the filters to filter partner listings by region, category, market, and compliance. You can select multiple filters to narrow down your search results. To apply your selected filters, click the Apply Filters button. To clear your filters, click the Clear Filters button.
In the Partner Listings feed, you can see the partner listings that match your selected criteria. At the top of the feed, you can see your selected filters. Within the feed, you can see a summary of the partner’s listing and any labels associated with the Partner Listing. To view more information about the partner, click the title or the Read more… link.
