Have you ever hit a roadblock and wish you could ask someone who’s been there? That’s exactly what Question Forums are for. Whether you're troubleshooting a Canvas or Mastery feature, exploring best practices, or eager to support others, the forums are one of the most collaborative spaces in the Instructure Community.

The Question Forums are an invaluable resource in the Instructure Community—year after year, they showcase incredible collaboration, thoughtful replies, and meaningful problem-solving. You’ll find dedicated forums for each Instructure product, as well as within many interest groups (check out Community Essentials: Groups & Hubs if you haven’t already!). These spaces are designed to help when you’re seeking support, but they also make it easier to contribute answers based on your interests and expertise.

With thousands of questions asked and answered each year, chances are someone’s already tackled a challenge just like yours. Fun fact: in 2024, our product-specific forums had a 70.6% solution rate—proof that help is just a post away.

And if you're not quite ready to reply, there's still a powerful way to make a difference: by verifying solutions. Clicking the Accept as Solution button helps others find trusted answers faster—and keeps helpful threads easy to find.

Let’s explore how you can make the most of the Question Forums—by asking thoughtful questions, contributing helpful answers, and marking solutions when they appear.

Asking a Question

Not sure where to start? Just ask! The Community is full of people who want to help. If you add a clear title and include specific details within your question, the easier it is for others to help!

To post your question:

  1. Head to the Question Forum in a relevant group or hub.

  2. Click “Ask a Question.”

  3. Add a clear subject line, details about your scenario, and any context that could help others understand your question.

Answering and Engaging

Forums are a two-way street! If you see a question you can answer—even partially—jump in and share what you know. You never know when your tip will be the key someone else needs. Even short replies like “This worked for me!” or “Here’s what I tried…” are incredibly helpful.

To reply to a question:

  1. Click into the post.

  2. Use the “Reply” button to share your answer, link a helpful guide, or offer advice.

Marking an Accepted Solution

If someone answers your question and it solves your issue, mark it as an Accepted Solution! This helps others who may have the same question find the right answer faster. Accepted solutions give credit to the person who helped you and help build Community trust!

To mark a reply as a solution:

  • Scroll to the correct response.

  • Click the “Accept as Solution” button.

What Our Community Coaches Say

We asked a few of our incredible Community Coaches to share why they love participating in the Question Forums. Here’s what they had to say:

The best reason to ask a question in the Community is the possibility they will encounter an answer that is unconstrained by the experiences and expectations of their near peers. Since Canvas users come from all kinds of institutions from all over the world, it’s possible that someone else has dealt with the same issue. There may not yet be a solution, or the solution posed by another user might not be the best fit for their environment, but at least they know they’re not alone.

I encounter this in every Canvas Klatch, where people who touch Canvas at every level (student, instructor, admin) bring a unique perspective on this software. I see attendees help each other, regardless of their different roles or institutions. They consistently express appreciation, even if all I or others can do is listen.

Asking a question in the Community ensures that your question will be seen by active users of Instructure products.  These users are invested in the Community (and the products) and have diverse experiences that help them provide more robust responses with actionable solutions.  Often a "conversation" ensues as Community members have a desire to help others. Even if a solution isn't readily available, the collaborative, supportive nature of the Community makes users feel seen and heard.

The Instructure Community often provides a richer and more robust experience than users will get from just submitting a ticker to support.  The community has users who have great technical knowledge, but more than that there are users from around the world with backgrounds in teaching, instructional design, administration, and more!  Questions in the community often organically turn into conversations about best practices and success stories from others, which can often be more helpful than the technical answer a support technician may provide.
