Custom Group Sharing
Custom groups can be created in Studio accounts. Users assigned within the same group can share media files to all group members and manage all group members' access to media files, including editing and sharing media files.
Creating a Group
If permissions are turned on for a role, the Create Group button appears for that user.
Group Creators can enter the group name, as well as add group members.
Group members display in the Group Members list. Each member's group user role displays next to each user’s name. When a user creates a group, the user is automatically added to the group as a group manager.
By default, group members are added with the Member role. Members can share Studio media content with other members in the group.
Alternatively, group members may be assigned the Manager role. Managers can share content with other group members, add and remove group members, and change the group role for other users in the group.
A group member’s role can be changed by clicking the Role drop-down menu and then selecting a user role.
Managers can remove users from the group by selecting the Remove from Group option.
Once a group name and members have been added, the group can be saved.
The group is then available to view on the Groups page.
Managing/Editing the Group
Once a manager saves a custom group, admins can view the custom group in the My Groups drop-down menu by selecting the Other Groups option.
The Other Groups page displays group name, group ID, and number of members in a group. Admins can manage any group in the Other Groups list, as well as edit or delete a group.
In the Edit Group window, admins and managers of the corresponding group can view the group ID, view and edit the group name, add members, view the group members list, and manage group member roles.
If a group member is also a Studio admin, they can view and edit any group in the Studio account, even if they are added to the group with Member permissions. An Admin icon displays next to the role drop-down menu.
Group Sharing
Students can share media and collections only with their Canvas Studio groups, and other students, instructors, and teacher assistants (TAs) enrolled in their courses.
Instructors, TAs, and instructional designers can share media with their Canvas Studio groups, all other instructors, TAs, instructional designers, and admins at their institution. They can also share media with verified Canvas Studio users enrolled in their courses.
Admins can share Canvas Studio media with all users at the institution.
