Updating a Studio Video Title After Embedding on a Content Page

Recently, I helped someone at the College I work for embed some Canvas Studio videos into her course.  Once she had embedded one of her videos, she discovered that the title that appears above the embedded Studio video had an error (such as a spelling mistake or incorrect information).  However, as much as we tried to fix the title, it just wasn't updating on the page in her course.  So, I turned to Canvas Support.  We sent a few e-mails back and forth, and I eventually got an e-mail from our L2 support group with a solution.  I've not been able to find documentation on this in the Guides here in the Canvas Community, so I thought I would write up some instructions for folks here.

I'm a bit of a board game nerd, so I'm going to base my example on a board game tutorial video that I've added to my own Canvas Studio library.  Imagine my course is dedicated to board games.  I've already added the tutorial video from YouTube to my Studio library.  In my course, I have a content page for the game, and I've embedded the video onto the page.  In the below screenshot, the text in the orange box is the title of the page.  The text in the green box is brought in when you embed the Studio video onto the page.

Let's say that I wanted to update "Everdell - How To Play" that is displayed above the video.  My first thought was to edit the HTML of the page.  That all sounded well and good.  In fact, when I looked at the HTML, there was a "title" property that had the same name, "Everdell - How To Play".  So, I changed that to "Everdell Tutorial".  But, when I saved the page, it did not change the name in the green box.  Back to square one.

Next, I went to my Studio library.  I clicked on the video, and went to the "Details" tab.  I clicked on the "Edit details" button, and then I changed the title from "Everdell - How To Play" to "Everdell Tutorial"...thinking that would update it in my course.

When I returned to my course, the title "Everdell - How To Play" was still displaying above the video (as shown in my first screenshot).  I even tried completely deleting the video from the page and then re-embedding the video from my Studio library...thinking that maybe it just takes a minute or two for the name to change.  Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

L2 Canvas Support to the rescue!  What I didn't realize is that you CAN change the name of the video without having to re-add the video to your Studio library.  Notice in my second screenshot (above), there is a drop-down menu just below the video.  That drop-down menu will appear under a video as you embed a Studio video into your course.  I needed to click on the drop-down menu and select the name of my course.

Once my course was selected, I clicked on the "Details" tab, and then I clicked on the "Edit details" button to update the title to "Everdell Tutorial".  When I went back to my course page, the title updated!  (The "title" property in the HTML still was "Everdell - How To Play"), so you might have to manually change this in the RCE (Rich Content Editor).

Now, I suppose you could embed the same video in multiple courses and give each instance of the video a different title via the drop-down menu in your Studio library.  I'm not sure what kind of scenario might be useful for that kind of thing, but it seems to be an option for you.

I hope this write-up helps to explain how you can easily update the title of your Studio video if you've already embedded it somewhere in your course.

Not a problem!!  Would any of the information I shared be worthy of including somehow in Canvas Studio written guides?
