Canvas Release User Summaries
This page contains feature summaries for each user role as described in each Canvas release or deploy.
Default Features
Default features affect all Canvas users. If enabled in the Help Menu, the Release Notes UI feature displays links to these features.
Optional Features
The use of optional features varies across institutions and is only distributed to Canvas admins.

Production of separate Canvas User Summary pages for Observers/Students and Instructors along with the Optional Features Distribution Templates for all users has been archived as of May 2022. All user role information is now available in the Canvas Features by User Role documentation above.
Because of Canvas Community age guidelines, only students over the age of 16 are able to participate in the Community. Canvas admins and observers/parents are welcome to share feature updates with younger students when appropriate.
