Canvas Release Notes (2023-07-15)
In this Canvas release (15 July), Admins can automatically subscribe users to an account calendar. In the Inbox, coding has been updated to improve functionality and user experience. The Grading Scheme is redesigned in both Account Settings, Assignments, and Course Settings. Additionally, live-events data is processed in the same region as the Canvas instance they are emitted from.

- For institutions using the Microsoft Teams, syncing can be disabled or enabled in both the production and beta environments.

Change Benefit
This update allows admins to provide easy access to account calendars for young users and their families. Additionally, this update prevents users of all ages from missing important dates and information.
Feature Workflow
When enabling an Account Calendar, admins can use the drop-down menu to select the Auto subscribe option.
Additional Details
In the Calendar, when a user is automatically subscribed to an Account Calendar, a notification displays in the calendar list next to the account calendar name on the first view.

Summary
In Account Settings, Grading Periods and Schemes display in an updated tab view for admins. Additionally, Grading Schemes is updated to Schemes. In Course Settings, instructors can view and edit individual grading schemes in a modal. When a Default Canvas Grading Scheme is available, instructors can make a copy and edit a new grading scheme. Selecting the Manage All Grading Schemes link also displays a modal. Additionally, when editing assignments the grading scheme drop-down menu displays and instructors can view/edit individual grading schemes when the Display Grade as Letter grade or GPA Scale is selected. Also, the Manage All Grading Scheme link text is updated.

Feature Workflow
In Account Level Grading, the tab display interface is updated and the Grading Schemes tab is updated to Schemes.
In Course Settings, when Enable course grading schemes is selected, a drop-down menu displays. When multiple grading schemes are available, instructors can use the drop-down menu to select a grading scheme [1], then click the View/Edit button [2]
When a Default Canvas Grading Scheme is available, the modal allows instructors to make a copy and edit a new grading scheme using a template.
When Manage All Grading Schemes is selected, a modal displays all available grading schemes.
When editing an assignment, a grading scheme drop-down menu displays when the Display Grade as is Letter Grade or GPA Scale [1], instructors can use the View/Edit button to display individual grading schemes [2], and the Manage All Grading Schemes link text is updated [3].

Feature options allow institutions to enable newly developed Canvas functionality according to their preferred time frame. Unless otherwise noted, all feature options are opt-in and do not require any action by a Canvas admin until a feature’s enforcement date is announced. Summary
In the beta environment, the Microsoft Group enrollment syncing feature option is disabled by default and prevents Microsoft Teams from accessing beta. In production, the Microsoft Group enrollment syncing feature option is enabled by default and allows Microsoft Teams access.
Change Benefit
This update allows institutions to have the flexibility to enable and disable Microsoft Group enrollment syncing in beta and production environments to allow testing without interference between environments.
Feature Workflow
Admin can opt to enable or disable the Microsoft Group enrollment syncing in either the beta or production environments.
Additional Details
Enabling the Microsoft Group enrollment syncing feature option in both the beta and production environment simultaneously is not recommended. Previously this feature was enforced for all institutions and the feature option was removed.

Summary
Live events data is processed in the same region as the Canvas instance they are emitted from. Therefore, the IP address emitting the event is changed.
Change Benefit
This update improves the speed of transferring data and residency compliance.
Additional Details
Users should ensure that they are able to receive events from any IP address. If Canvas encounters errors in user subscriptions, live event subscriptions may be disabled.
