Canvas Deploy Notes (2023-08-30)

Canvas deploys contain code changes that are intended to fix bugs, improve performance, and prepare for new features. These deploys take place every two weeks and can be tested in the beta environment before the production deploy date indicated in the title of this document.

Deploy notes indicate notable changes in the deploy by feature. To view functionality according to user role, please see Canvas Features by User Role.

Support for iWork File Conversion in DocViewer

Summary

When a user in the United States uploads an iWork file (.pages, .numbers, and .key) to Canvas using a Canvas iOS app or the web, uploaded files are able to be previewed in the DocViewer.

This feature does not require action by admins or instructors to enable, however it only applies to accounts in the United States.

Note: iWork submissions uploaded prior to August 30, 2023 are not able to be previewed; the file will need to be re-uploaded to enable the preview.

Change Benefit

This update allows students to submit iWork files. Instructors can view and annotate the files in SpeedGrader as well as create Student Annotation assignments using an iWork file.

Additional Details

Previously, instructors could only download submitted iWork files.

Rich Content Editor

Course Links Modal No Results Update

Summary

In the Rich Content Editor, the Course Link modal is updated with a Content Type icon and a link to create an item.

Change Benefit

This update improves the instructor workflow by easily navigating to the appropriate areas to create content from the Rich Content Editor Course Link modal.
