Canvas Deploy Notes (2021-12-01)

Canvas deploys contain code changes that are intended to fix bugs, improve performance, and prepare for new features. These deploys take place every two weeks and can be tested in the beta environment before the production deploy date indicated in the title of this document.
Deploy notes indicate notable changes in the deploy.

In Account Settings, the Theme Editor includes an option to set a color for the Global Navigation background, which affects the background of the menu bar in mobile web browsers. Previously the background color functionality was managed by the Global Branding Primary Brand Color.

In the Discussions Settings menu, the Edit Discussion Settings title has been renamed to Discussion Settings.
In the list of menu options, references to post have been renamed to reply or replies.

When the Gradebook Settings Icon is selected, the content displays as a sidebar instead of a new window within the browser. No Settings functionality has been affected.
Additional Details
The Late Policies and the Grade Posting Policy tabs display by default. The Final Grade Override tab only displays if the feature is turned on for the course. If available, the feature will be available in the Course Settings Feature Preview tab.

Course Settings Publish Buttons

Summary
Course Publish and Unpublish buttons display in the Course Settings page.

This change allows courses to be published from either the Course Settings page or the Dashboard.

In the Course Details tab, the top of the Course Settings sidebar includes the course Publish and Unpublish buttons. Courses can be published and unpublished from either the Dashboard or Course Settings.
When a course includes graded submissions, the course can no longer be unpublished and the buttons will be removed from the page.
Additional Details
Publishing a course is a course permission set at the account level.

Canvas for Elementary
The Canvas for Elementary feature creates a digital classroom that reflects the physical classroom experience for elementary students. Full details can be found in the Canvas for Elementary Feature Page.
Subject Banner Sizing

Summary
For individual subjects, the subject banner is collapsed as a user scrolls down the page.
Change Benefit
This change ensures the subject banner is not sticky and collapses as appropriate.

When a subject banner is added to a Course Settings page, the banner displays for the Subject. Users who scroll down the page will see the full banner, but as they scroll down the page, the banner will collapse to only display the subject name.
Additional Details
If a subject banner is not added for a subject, the subject displays the card image set for the subject. If no card image has been set, the subject displays the color set for the subject.
Home Page Edit Button

This change allows teachers to edit a subject home page without having to manage the subject.

When a subject home page has been created for a subject, the home page displays an Edit button at the top of the home page.
Additional Details
Teachers can also edit the home page by clicking the Manage Subject button and viewing Pages in the Subject Navigation Menu.
