On September 17, Canvas deploy notes will be consolidated with the Canvas release notes. This change provides an easier way to view feature updates in one location. Learn more

Canvas deploys contain code changes that are intended to fix bugs, improve performance, and prepare for new features. These deploys take place every two weeks and can be tested in the beta environment before the production deploy date indicated in the title of this document.

Deploy notes indicate notable changes in the deploy.

Fixed bugs are located in Known Issues. For related issues resolved in this deploy, view the 2021-09-29 Known Issues tag.

SpeedGrader

Excused Status Display

Summary

When added in the Gradebook for a student’s assignment, the Excused status displays in the Grades field in SpeedGrader.

Change Benefit

This change provides consistency in viewing the Excused status in both the Gradebook and SpeedGrader.

When an assignment is excused for a student, the Excused status displays in the Grades field as EX. The field is grayed out to indicate the student has been excused from the assignment and a grade is not required.

Summary

Microsoft Immersive Reader has been changed from an Account Feature Preview, which must be enabled by admins, to an accessibility feature that individual users can enable in their User Settings.

This change provides more granularity for users to access Microsoft Immersive Reader.

Feature Workflow

In Account Settings, Microsoft Immersive Reader no longer includes a Lock option. This feature can only be enabled for the entire account. By default, the feature preview is turned off.

In User Settings, Microsoft Immersive Reader is available for users to enable individually, regardless of the preference set at the account level. However, if the feature is on for the entire account, the account preference overrides the user preference, and the user setting has no effect.

Additional Details

Microsoft Immersive Reader enhances the reading experience within Canvas by improving accessibility and boosting reading comprehension. When enabled, Microsoft Immersive Reader displays a reader button in course pages.

New Quizzes

Modules Build Link

Summary

Within a module, New Quizzes include a link to the quiz Build page.

Change Benefit

This change allows users to bypass the assignment details page and quickly access the quiz Build page.

The link to the quiz Build page allows instructors to immediately change quiz questions, general settings, or quiz moderation options.
