Canvas deploys contain code changes that are intended to fix bugs, improve performance, and prepare for new features, but they do not affect customer workflows. These deploys take place every two weeks and can be tested in the beta environment before the production deploy date indicated in the title of this document. Intended changes in workflow are noted in the Canvas Release Notes published monthly.
Deploy notes may include notable fixed bugs, resolved fixes in Known Issues, and other updates that do not affect user functionality.

Image Options File URL Field

Summary
For linked and external images, the File URL field has been added to the Image Options menu.
Change Benefit
This change allows an image URL to be updated without having to remove and replace the image.
Affected User Roles
All Users
When an image is added to the Rich Content Editor via URL, the Image Options menu includes the File URL field. The URL can be updated to change the image displayed in the editor.

Notifications
SMS Column
The SMS column has been removed from the Notifications page. This change is in preparation for removing SMS notifications and is currently only applicable to the beta environment. (The SMS Notification column will remain in the production environment until July 31.)

Course Templates
The Courses - Course Templates permission has been renamed to Manage Course Templates. This change aligns consistency with other granular permissions.
Users
Self-Service User Merge
This feature was enabled in the production environment on June 21.
Admins can disable user merging for an account. Currently Canvas allows all admins to merge user accounts if they have permission. However, institutions can prevent users from being able to merge users in an account by turning off the Self Service User Merge feature option in Account Settings. This change benefits accounts that use a student information system (SIS) to manage user enrollments or are part of a Canvas consortium.
Unless institutions want to turn off the ability to merge users, no action is required.

Collaborations
The horizontal separator in the Options menu is not treated as a stop for keyboard users.
Conversations
The No Conversations Selected text displays a color contrast of 3:1 for the default Canvas interface and 4.5:1 for high contrast profiles.
Grades
The Course Name has been added to the course total and assignment group totals for screen readers.
User Page Views
The CSV download button includes more informative context for screen readers.
User Settings
In the Ways to Contact page, the For All Devices link has been removed from the page.
Assignments
Student Annotation Anonymous Peer Review Support
Anonymous peer reviews are supported in student annotation assignments.
Explanation: When an assignment included an anonymous peer review, the name of the student who completed the review was shown in the annotation. Canvas code has been updated to replace the name of the student with Student.
External Tools (LTI)
SpeedGrader and Assignment Submissions
LTI assignment grades for students in active sections but concluded course dates pass back to SpeedGrader.
Explanation: When a course was concluded by term dates, New Quizzes and other LTIs were not passing submissions and grades to SpeedGrader if students were either enrolled in a section with active dates, or if the term had student access dates past the term dates. Canvas code has been updated to not prevent passing back grades.
MasteryPaths
Assignments Index Page and Pages
Pages allowed in a mastery path do not display in the Assignments Index Page.
Explanation: When a page was allowed in a mastery path, the page also showed in the Assignment Index page. Canvas code has been updated to not display pages in the Assignments page.
Rich Content Editor
Pretty HTML Editor
Placement of a user’s cursor does not affect the page formatting.
Explanation: When an HTML tag was added in the editor, and a user’s cursor was to the left of the first HTML tag, adding an additional HTML tag before the first disrupted the cursor placement and misaligned all formatting. Canvas code has been updated to maintain formatting in the editor.
