When it says the Observer will see the number of missing items on the Subject card, is it talking about Observers working in a browser? Will there be any change in Observer's work in the Canvas Parent app? Or will the Canvas Parent app experience remain the same?
Hi @CarlaD07
This change doesn't affect mobile, as these release notes are only for web changes.
Thanks!
Erin
Hello @erinhmcmillan,
Thank you. We greatly appreciate the efforts to clearly communicate this information to observers and are looking forward to the update!
Any word on if the missing assignment count will be scoped to the grading period with this update? Per a discussion in the elementary community there's an engineering ticket for this in student view. Enabling a missing assignment count on the parent dashboard that includes first quarter missing assignments (rather than the current grading period only) the weekend before schools let out for Christmas break is problematic...
Glad to see incremental improvements to C4E!
@erinhmcmillan/@jsailor We would like to have the option/ability to have 'Missing' drop at the end of grading periods.
HERE is the discussion Audra was referring to.
Don
@erinhmcmillan @jsailor has there been any discussion about delaying this until the Missing count is scoped to grading periods for all users? It's confusing enough for students to see an inflated count that include 1st quarter work. Parents are going to have questions about their child's missing work and teachers are going to be off for the holidays and (hopefully) resting and not checking their email. Not that I want a change that is going to drive more questions from parents to teachers any time of year. I also hate to think that a kid gets punished over the break because information on the parent dashboard is not scoped to the current quarter.
@audra_agnelly, your concerns are definitely valid and we do not want this to inaccurately communicate things to parents. We are planning to hotfix the adjustment to scope to the current grading period so that it goes live with this feature tomorrow.
Jody, I'm curious when missing will drop for future dates. Will they drop from view on the End Date or the Close Date?
Don
@dcrandall, this change was scoped to the end date.
@jsailor - Whoot Whoot... it worked!
I had several new students starting today and they all had ZERO missing items in Canvas. So much easier for them to understand and get going on the right foot.
Also, teachers were so excited to see all previous missing items dropped from Q1 and Q2. This saves a lot time that was lost explaining what was a real vs old missing assignment.
Thanks so much for your help in getting this change done.
Don
Thank you for the follow up, @dcrandall. Thrilled to hear this news! Happy New Year!
Wa-hooo, this is excellent news! Merry Christmas to us! You're the best @jsailor !
