Video Uploads Missing

Every three weeks our students are required to create a video for an assignment. It's supposed to be mp4 format and no longer than 3 minutes. We used to use FlipGrid, but that has gone down the MS Rabbit Hole.

Anyway, several students are complaining they uploaded the video and showed submitted. However, when I go to view it the video is missing. When they go back it's gone.

Yes, I know there are many reasons for this...to include the student just telling me they completed the upload. However, some have the video file on their computer.

Never really had an issue before, so has anyone seen this before? Is there something I can do to mitigate this issue?

Hey @DONALDPERRY ,

Thank you for posting on the Instructure Community!

To my knowledge, this isn't really a known issue. I'd ensure that your students are uploading the video files in an mp4 or mov format. Depending on the device the students use, or if they use some special type of software, it may be saving the videos as an unsupported file format that Canvas doesn't allow.

Another possible solution... does your institution by chance have access to Canvas Studio? If so, your students can record / upload their videos into studio and actually submit the studio recording, as long as you have file submissions enabled for the assignment. However, if your school does not have access to Canvas Studio, then you won't be able to do that.

If this issue persists, I always recommend reaching out to the Canvas Support team directly, or if it's more of a instance-wide issue, your Customer Success Manager (your canvas admin would have access to message them) to see what's going on. This could easily be an engineering issue as well that is affecting the file upload process for some / all of your students.

Best,
Noah
