Recently, all pdf files that I download from the Canvas LMS are sent straight to my "downloads" folder and are then automatically opened in Acrobat.
While I appreciate the simplicity of that process, I would prefer to be able to browse and select the file's download location as before. Is there a Canvas setting I can alter to fix this, is it a problem with my browser or other settings, or do I just have to deal with it?
Any guidance is appreciated, thanks

@jdanley ,
I am also not a fan of everything getting put into the downloads folder. It's probably a combination of your browser settings and/or what your default PDF viewer is. If the default is to always open a pdf with acrobat instead of Chrome's built-in pdf reader it will do what you are describing.
To make Chrome always ask you were to save see the "Change download locations" section of the Download a file help page for Chrome.
To set PDFs to open with Chrome go to:
> Settings > Privacy and Security > Site Settings > Additional Content Settings > PDF documents
