Thanks for adding the partial credit feature for Matching questions in new quizzes. Can we pleeeeease get partial credit added as an option to Category questions (and any other types of questions that allow for multiple answers.)
I love the amazing capabilities that the new quizzes have. With these little tweaks, it will be super amazing.

@MarySaylor ...
You'll want to submit your comments as a Feature Idea here in the Community. That way, folks have a chance to determine if this would also be something they would like to see as a part of New Quizzes. Here are a few Guides for you to look through:
Let Community members know if you have any other questions about this...thanks!

Partial credit was part of all the question types (matching, etc) in the old quizzes!! We should not have to request features that used to exist in Canvas!
Partial credit for categorization, just like partial credit for matching questions, is a TOTAL No-Brainer! Duh! Why it took years for partial credit to be added to matching (and I only discovered that today, I don't know how long ago it was fixed, because Canvas never sends out a list of new fixes) is unexplainable, except for Canvas' incompetence. Too harsh? I think not. And so Canvas needs to just fix all their no-brainer issues instead of asking the community to vote on them. Because everyone wants these no-brainer issues to be fixed!

Do you know if you had submitted a ticket about this to Canvas Support? If you did, then you should have been added to any existing tickets they had about this issue...and then when and if things are fixed, you would have been notified that way. At least, that's the way I understand how the Canvas Help Desk staff operates currently.
Also (I'm not sure if this totally addresses your concern, but I am providing you the information just in case) ... I'm not sure if you frequent the Canvas Community website much, but Instrucure (the folks that make Canvas) distributes their Release Notes documents every month here for the public to review. You can always find their Release Notes posted at:
Canvas Releases - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)
In addition, this document details their schedule for all their Release Notes:
What is the Canvas release schedule for beta, prod... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)
Finally, there is a good FAQs document to answer additional information about the Release Notes and the Deploy Notes you see listed on the first link I provided:
Release Notes Summary (FAQ) - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com)
When I was a Canvas administrator in higher education, I made sure to follow these updates and then post announcements to our Canvas Dashboard to let our faculty know ahead of time that new updates and/or features were coming to their Canvas courses...so that they could be prepared for any changes. I'm not sure if your school Canvas administrator has done anything similar, but this might be something that you might make as a suggestion to that person. (Maybe they already do this...which is great!) If you are using the FFT (Free For Teacher) version of Canvas, I can see where you might not see these kinds of monthly updates right away. That's where I would encourage you to follow these areas of the Community so that you stay updated. You can "Subscribe" to those areas of the Community so that you are notified when new things are posted.
I hope that I have helped to clarify things for you, Richard. And, I hope that you'll be able to take advantage of the Release Notes/Deploy Notes areas here in the Community to check out the new things that Instructure has been working on.
Take care...be well.
Thanks for the info.
Without partial credit, the Categorization question (which seemed like such a great idea!) becomes nearly useless -- unless you have a question with a very small number of categories and items to put into them.
I embraced this question type with gusto on my first quiz, not noticing the little note: "There is not an option to assign partial credit for Categorization questions." Now I have so many students complaining that the got one out of 12 wrong but got ZERO points. And I don't blame them...
Nice try, Canvas. But if you really want to do this for real, then do it right.
(And don't expect me to read pages and pages to figure out how to submit a "feature idea". I'm your customer, not your unpaid employee. Do you your job, and do it right.)
Totally agreed. It took them over a year to finally add a partial credit option for matching questions in the new quizzes, but they didn't add it to the ordering and categorization questions also. It is not our job to do their UX research for them! This is probably the 5th thing I've found where they've taken away critical features of the old quizzes and then their support team tells me to go request the feature as a feature idea. SO. FRUSTRATING. With all the other way better EdTech tools out there, it might be time to officially breakup with Canvas quizzes.
Time to break up with Canvas, period. They suck. Can you tell that after years of using it, I'm frustrated?
I would like to bump up this topic to receive more attention because as a new instructor, I would love to have the feature of partial credit being awarded for 'categorization' questions. It does seem odd that this has not been addressed yet as I have seen people requesting for this feature up to 6 years ago, and if 'matching' type questions were able to get this treatment then why shouldn't other types of questions, especially since people would still have the option to make it 'all or nothing' if they still wanted to over partial credit....
Just trying to figure out how to give partial credit and came across this forum. Oh my goodness. This is such a basic feature! PLEASE address this soon, Canvas!
Two years later and we still can't give partial credit on Categorization questions? To echo another commenter, "Without partial credit, the Categorization question (which seemed like such a great idea!) becomes nearly useless -- unless you have a question with a very small number of categories and items to put into them."
This. I desperately want to use Categorization on my Biology tests. Desperately. But I refuse to have students spend 5 minutes on a test question and get practically everything right (except for one) and get a zero. It is disheartening for the students and it doesn't help me figure out if they are clueless on a concept or close when I do my question analysis after the assessment.
