Good afternoon,
I am currently helping a faculty who has a large enrollment course finalize their end of year grades. In the gradebook, they have assignments with dashes.
In his setting, though, they have the automatically apply grade for missing submissions on:
Despite this setting being enabled, he is still finding assignments with the dashes instead of zeroes.
My first thought was that maybe there wasn't a due date associated with this assignment, but we into it, and there is a due date that has long passed. I tried some simple fixes like disabling the setting, saving it, and turning it back on, but that did nothing.
Does anyone here in the Canvas Community have some insights into this issue? Thanks so much for reading.

Hi @JordanGarciaNAU ,
Based on the name of the assignment, I'm wondering if it was assigned as an External Tool submission. According to the guide How do I apply a Missing Submission policy in the Gradebook?, this feature does not work with External Tool Assignments:
- The Missing Submission policy will not be automatically applied to No Submission, On Paper, or External Tool assignments with the exception of New Quizzes quizzes. However, a Missing label can be added in the Grade Detail Tray.
