Groups, Sections, or User Roles- Setting up a Mentorship Course

I am looking for recommendations on how to set up the following in Canvas.

We are trying to set up a mentorship course that has a main teacher, but also mentors.  We only want the mentors to have access to their individual mentee's assignments and information (student).  The main teacher will need access to all students.  What is the best way to set this up in Canvas?

Greetings @KEdwards8 ,

If you are trying to make the mentor role based off of the teacher or TA role, or another role that has permission to edit course content, then unfortunately you cannot limit which modules, assignments or pages they can see. The only role that is able to receive controlled access would be the student role, followed by the observer role (as they are observing students). That being said, it's definitely possible to set up a new role for the mentor role based off of the student role, but then that user would appear in your gradebook and would see assignments in their to-do list.

All this being said, I feel it would be best to create a mentor role based off of the observer role, and you can pair each mentor to their student, and they would only have access to that student's information. However, they will not be able to have access to resources such as unpublished content / modules, or see the hidden course navigation links, if those were something you wanted mentors to have access to.

I hope this helps a bit, feel free to reach out with any additional questions or concerns! Thanks.
Noah
