Engineering notation and Metric notation

This is not about scientific notation. I am just putting it out there, that many of us engineering instructors would really like the option for engineering notation, and my dream - metric notation - to be used in the answers and calculations. Most people do not realize they are using metric notation - 16Gb, 8Mb, 141 MHz.….. but that is an important aspect of our field. I know that is a long stretch, but even 4 decimal places is not enough to cover some of the small values of current we calculate. I have found many questions and requests on scientific notation, but none on this specifically. Thank you.

Many in the sciences have written about the lack of support for units with the answers. I've never heard it called metric notation, which may explain why you couldn't find anything if you searched for that.

Thank you for the feedback. It is very common in the electrical engineering world and is known as metric notation.  As stated before, people use it and don't know it.
