Hello @CarolDeremer
Thanks for reaching out on this.
I want to start out by saying that I am not super familiar with VHL. However, most integrated apps in Canvas generally follow similar screen flows as far as connecting them to Canvas.
- If you have installed the app correctly in Canvas, VHL should be a nav link you can enable in the course navigation. I think it is labeled as "Launch VHL Central" IIRC.
- Once the instructor clicks on the VHL link in the course navigation, it should prompt them to enter their VHL Credentials and authenticate them. If they have entered the correct credentials for VHL, this should take them to the course connector which will list what current VHL course sections you have available for linking.
- On the Course Connector page select the desired course section and click Submit.
The course will be successfully linked and you will notice a “Set up Grade Sync” link for Syncing the course grades.
Based on what you are describing, it sounds like instructor you are working with is not using the correct VHL central credentials (Maybe they have two VHL Accounts?) when they try to connect it with their Canvas course, or they don't have desired course section created in VHL quite yet. You could have the instructor double check their VHL credentials. Another option would be to reach out to VHL central's support team to have them take a look.
It could also be related to a fault/corrupted API access token that was generated in the instructors account. You could have them check and see if an API access token has been created in their account settings, under Approved integrations (I can't seem to recall if an API token is generated for VHL central). Sometimes these access tokens need to be re-authorized from time to time.
Let us know what you find out on this!
