Connecting Canvas Data to Tableau for Reporting Dual Enrollment Students.

One of our staff members discovered that some of her dual enrollment students are enrolled in test courses we are piloting, and she needs to report this information to high school counselors. While the Grade Export report in Canvas settings could help, it includes a lot of extra data, requiring significant manual manipulation to extract just what she needs.

Looking ahead, we think a better long-term solution would be to have our reporting program, Tableau, pull data directly from Canvas. We know about generating approved Integrations access tokens, but most of the documentation we found seems to focus on embedding Tableau in Canvas, whereas we need the opposite—pulling Canvas data into Tableau for reporting.

Has anyone successfully set up this type of connection? If so, how did you go about it? Any guidance or best practices would be greatly appreciated!

To pull site-wide data from Canvas, you can access Canvas Data

Canvas Data allows you to create custom reports using queries or SQL. You can download Canvas Data to your computer or server (As a data source for Tableau), but you may need to contact your Canvas CSM to enable access.
