Changing the weight of an exam after it has been taken.

Hi,

I assigned a final and distributed a maximum of 100 points. On the syllabus, the final is said to weigh 30 points out of 100. Unfortunately I forgot to adjust this on the final itself, and now the final outweighs all the other assignments combined. The platform does not allow me to change 100 to 30 points. Does anyone know what to do?

I'm assuming you are using a classic quiz for the final, as in those the points are the sum of the points of the individual questions, and shouldn't be changed after students start the quiz.

I'll offer two solutions here:

1. Make the current final not count for the grade, and make a new assignment where you can manually add the adjusted grades. So if someone had 100 in the current final, they'll get a 30 in the new assignment. If someone had 70, they'll have 21. And so on.
2. Use assignment groups, which can have weights. So the "final exam" assignment group will be worth 30%, and it won't matter how many points are within the group (30, 100 or 1000), as they will all count for 30% of the total grade. I don't know what other assignments you have, but you may have an assignment group for "midterm" for another 30%, another for "homework", with a few different assignments for, say, 20%, and so on.
