Is there a way to make the discussion forum initial post due date and the reply due date both show in the student view calendar. My students have a difficult time with not getting the initial post completed on one date and then completed the assignment with 2 replies on the due date

I'm a little confused by part of your question.  As far as I am aware, graded discussion topics only have one due date...not two.  When I create a new topic and check the "Graded" option, I get some additional options as it relates to grading.  Within the "Assign" box, there is a "Due" option where you can set a due date.  The "Available from" and "Until" date fields are not the same as due dates.  Where are you seeing a "reply due date" within your course(s)?  Could you please provide some more details on where you might be seeing this in your course(s)?  Looking forward to hearing back from you on this...thanks!

I would like an initial post due date and replies due date, but that is not an option. Every Thursday I need to remind my students that the initial post is due for attendance on Thursday...then I hear "the due date for the assignment in the calendar says Sunday - because that is when the actual assignment is due for completion. Why can't discussion forums have a different template for this??

Currently, multiple due dates for discussion topics are not a "thing" in Canvas.  However, I know that there is an Idea that has been submitted along with an overall Theme, and I'd encourage you to follow both of these:

When you take a look at the second link I've provided (the Theme), there is an area within it called "Referenced Ideas".  At the very end of that list, you'll see a link which points to the first item I've linked above.
